Edge of your seat suspense and surprises by the dozen!

Vish Dhamija's second book improves upon the pace and expectations set by the first. Despite living and working in the first world, Vish's approach to crime fiction - setting his stories in the steamy underbelly of the third world, but with enough global appeal in the vast canvas that the story stretches across - is a breath of fresh air. We're not looking at white collar crime. We're not looking at rehashes of true crime stories from TV. We are looking at something truly original in approach, content and treatment, and this book is the latest evidence. I really enjoyed reading this book, and have recommended it to all my friends. There are more twists and turns in this book than in a Dharavi gali. Without spoiling it for you, all I can say is, if you are considering a good read that you will want to read in one sitting, rather than even eat, drink or sleep, this is the one for you.

I bought Bhendi Bazaar thinking it was another one of many crime thrillers that are laced with unwarranted love stories to give them a filmy touch, but this book is totally different.

Of course there’s some romance in the story but that is one of the side story rather than taking the focus away from the main narrative.

Remarkable characters — specially the protagonist Rita Ferreira, a complex plot with numerous twists, irony and humour, exhilaration, and unique imagery. A genuine “noir”.

As good as it gets!

Bhendi Bazaar captures you from page one and holds you down till the end. It's mesmerising. The story flows without interruption even though the investigation halts every now and then for flashback scenes, which actually enhance the flavour. Kudos to the author for doing super job by taking readers through historical events that happened around the time to give a realistic background to flashbacks.
No part of the novel is a drag.
Strongly recommended to anyone who wants to read a world class Indian thriller.

Good information, but ...

The target audience of this book seems to be parents or teaching students who have not had previous exposure to Talented And Gifted (TAG) programs or nomenclature. For this audience the material is a well-organized overview of methods to identify TAG students, reasons TAG programs should be implemented in schools, challenges TAG programs face within school systems, and programs that have been put in place for gifted students from elementary school through high school. However, readers who have more familiarity with TAG services, including parents whose children have already been identified as gifted, will likely find this too basic a text.

The book is roughly divided into thirds, with the first third covering gifted identification, the second reasons why some type of differentiation for gifted students is beneficial, and the last third discussing specific programs and support that exist and seem to be working for gifted students. The identification section is very general, listing types of tests and certain scores that may be used as a "cut off" for gifted services. Parents will not find details of how to collect items for TAG consideration for their children, but beginning teachers will find resources to help them identify classic and negative gifted behaviors in their classrooms. The section concerning reasons to provide gifted services seems to be aimed at educational administrators--those who make the decisions whether to keep a particular program at a high level rather than individuals who might craft a program for a particular school. A creative person could find ideas for implementing a program, but not a detailed how-to checklist.

The ideas for specific programs and coping strategies for gifted youth was the section I found most useful personally. This section presumed that a student had been identified and a basic program established and from there provided details of particular curricula and a brief discussion of their use. It discusses specific curricula and issues--I was grateful for the specificity.

One feature I never did understand was the tongue-in-cheek "play" at the beginning of each chapter. Often written as interviews between various characters, at first I thought it was a light-hearted synopsis of what was to be found in the chapter, but instead I found many to be unrelated to the remainder of the chapter: sort of a gifted tangent from the information in the book. I could have lived without these and simply skipped over this section of later chapters.

I found rating this book difficult. Had this volume been available when I first started researching TAG resources I would likely be waxing poetic about all the general knowledge available in one source, and I would recommend it to those who are looking for their first taste of TAG program potential. However, I wanted a depth the design of this book cannot provide. I don't know that I would call it a "handbook"--though it provides interesting information it does not have the exhaustive reference material I would have wanted to see. I hae settled on four stars as I believed this book would help those with very limited prior TAG knowledge, but I have gone back to three stars as I have not had any desire to re-examine this book in the months since I first read it despite new questions I have about gifted education.

Chapters address how to identify gifted children, the pros and cons of educational acceleration from grade skipping to early college admission, how to aid the development of thinking skills and creative growth, and common problems or counseling needs among gifted children. Written in a conversational style accessible to the lay reader, Gifted Children Gifted Education is highly recommended for parents of gifted children.

About the Author

Juergen Tesak was Professor of Logopaedie at the Europa Fachhochschule Fresenius (EFF), Darmstadt, Germany.

Chris Code is Research Fellow in the School of Psychology, Washington Singer Laboratories, University of Exeter and Foundation Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders (Hon) at the University of Sydney. He is also National Advisor on Aphasia for Speakability (www.speakability.org.uk), Patron of Aphasia Now and co-founding Editor of the international Psychology Press journal Aphasiology.

Both scientific and romantic

I was delighted by getting this book. Both authors put in a profound knowledge of the topic of language disorders in general and a deep historical study of how these disorders were gradually discovered and viewed. The development of understanding defected language is very helpful in disclosing the whole enigma of the language production and perception. Even after this parade of historical attempts to figure out how spoken and written communications are being analysed and what the route from an idea to its formulation in words and sentences in acoustic utterances or in letters should probably run, one still remains pretty ignorant, how these miracles operate in human brain. The book demonstrates nicely, that language is the main scaffolding for the construction of our reasoning and that still a lot of research will be necessary to reach to further elucidation of this incredible human privilege.

Amazing! nearly everything you need in one small book!

I am a cheif resident of neurology, and have been using this book to study for my RITE exam and boards. it has every key concept convered in well organized and easy to follow chapters. If your looking for the most possible information presented in the least amount of pages in a clear, concise manner, this is a wonderful book. The figures and tables are excellent and all in color! When supplementing this book with clinical cases and more in depth references, it can be a great guidline for any medical student, neurology resident or practicing neurologist.

concise but complete, a good fast consultation book

A good pocket book, useful for quick consultation and review of the principal features of most neurological conditions.
Chapters are well organized, easy to follow and complete despsite their concision. Tables and diagrams provide a fast and efficient review of principal differential diagnosis and therapies. Its extended list of references offers interesting cues to delve into.
Useful both for medical students and residents,as companion of a more extended textbook.

Excellent for Neurology Review

I am a medical student and used this book as a review for my Brain and Behavior course. It was excellent in preparing me for clinical scenarios. It is well written and concise. The pictures are very helpful. I highly recommend this book to anyone in the Neurology field interested in an excellent reference book.
