About the Author
Sherri L. Jackson is professor of psychology at Jacksonville University (JU), where she has taught since 1988 and currently serves as Chair of the Division of Social Sciences. At JU, she has won Excellence in Scholarship (2003), University Service (2004), and Teaching (2009) awards; the university-wide Professor of the Year Award in 2004; the Woman of the Year Award in 2005; and the Institutional Excellence Award in 2007. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. in cognitive/experimental psychology from the University of Florida. Her research interests include human reasoning and the teaching of psychology, and she has published numerous articles in both areas. She is also the author of RESEARCH METHODS & STATISTICS: A CRITICAL THINKING APPROACH, 5th Edition (Wadsworth/Cengage, 2016), RESEARCH METHODS: A MODULAR APPROACH, 3rd Edition (Wadsworth/Cengage, 2015) and A CONCISE GUIDE TO STATISTICAL ANALYSES USING EXCEL, SPSS, AND THE TI-84 CALCULATOR (Cengage, 2013).

An Excellent textbook!

Research methods is an intense subject for many college students who have it as a requisite to their graduation.
Dr. Jackson's "Research Methods: A Modular Approach" is phenomenal! An absolute must for the serious student!
Jackson's book presents research methods in simple, concise language that makes for a good read. I enjoyed reading this textbook and working through the many exercises, self-tests, and critical thinking reviews. The book gives meanings to unfamiliar terms and breaks down complicated formulas into simple ideas. The book is designed for students to succeed! Dr. Jackson takes a magnanimous and intimidating subject and makes it not only likable but enjoyable to read and work through. If planning to take a research methods course or to go to grad school this is an ultimate resource book to add to your library.

Provides the basics of research

A coursebook. Be prepared to memorize - alot. And yet, there are some positives to this book. First, it is a rental. Considering the annoying and expensive price of the book, Amazon got smart AGAIN with text book rentals. (Still trying to determine just why textbooks ARE so expensive - yeah.) I will try and post how that works out when i return it to Amazon in January. The book is laid out in learning modules. There are definitions in the margins, great review questions in the chapter that test your immediate reading retention, and chapter review at the end of each chapter in the form of multiple choice, fill-in short answer and like - to comparisons to test longer-term retention. This could be used from a senior year high school level. We are using it in a masters level course to provide an introduction to research techniques. Our program is clinically oriented. I would say, that if the reader is "following" the book and examples, there are some continuity flaws. The author does try to refer back to similar ideas and build upon concepts, but this can still be a little confusing. Overall, a good text book because it is easy to keep up with the reading.
